The First Signs of Fall

The First Signs of Fall

The air is crisp in the morning and evening. Leaves are falling from the trees. Children are walking to school in light jackets. Honey Crisp apples are available at Whole Foods. Stew and soup recipes fill my mind. Fall wreaths decorate doors.

For me, these are the first signs of fall.

Fall is a time of respite, flanked by two seasons of extreme temperatures. It is a wonderful time of year.

The Song of the Week this week isn’t defining my mood as I reflect on the week’s events. Instead it is what I am looking forward to this weekend.

This weekend we are expecting cooler temperatures and maybe even rain on Sunday. There will be bluesy background music as I make Thai Shrimp Soup to keep the chill at bay one weekend evening. Maybe I will make an apple cake on Sunday.

I will be relaxing and soaking up all that I love about fall this weekend.

Enjoy Norah Jones’ live performance of Don’t Know Why:

I hope you can enjoy the first signs of fall this weekend.

Happy Friday!

      JP~
I made a list of recipes I want to make in the next month and that is definitely on the list! Enjoy tonight’s dinner and have a great weekend.

  2. I have always loved the change from summer to fall. Long before the actual temperature drops, I can smell fall coming, Smell it in the air. And when it finally comes, it makes me frisky, with energy and the drive to bake and plant and buy pumpkins.

Looks like we are thinking about the same things. I see you are providing a link to a beef chili recipe on your blog. I will have to check it out! I have to make chili soon too.

  3. Just yesterday morning I said, “It feels like Fall in the air.” And I was just at Party City and saw all of the Halloween and harvest decor out. Can’t believe the summer is over, but looking forward to the Fall. Enjoy your thai shrimp soup, yummy! (Stopping by from SITS)

Thanks for stopping by from SITS! I will be by to check out your blog as well.

  4. I LOVE fall. Definitely the best time of year here :)

  5. Love the fall. Love homemade soup, wearing jackets and socks, snuggling close at a football game.

    And love Norah Jones.

      Miss Robin,

I agree with your list of fall favorites!

  6. I will have the great pleasure to enjoy the weekend with my 13 year old son, his buddy and a 11 year old girl. I will be taking them on a duck hunt. This will be my sons 3rd waterfowl hunt, the young girls second hunt and my sons friends first hunt. Camping at the lake the night before with caramello smores and Brats over a campfire. Duck hunting stories of my youth and 5:00 am breakfast burritos over the grill before the hunt. It does not get any better.

      Frank,

I have not yet made the Carmello smores, but will do so this fall. It is such a great idea! Will let you know what I think once I try one (or two or three!).

  7. Fall is my absolute favourite time of year. Most of all I love the fashion – the colours of fall, hats, scarves, sweaters, knee-high boots. Fun!

I love fall too…not just because it is my birthday season, but for all of the reasons you list above and the added bonus of decorating for Halloween. I would not like to live in a region where fall would not be a big change from summer.

I spent most of today cleaning and putting out my fall decorations. I lit two candles that have a scent called Fireside. They smell like a big roaring fire is blazing.

happy fall to all of you.

It sounds like you had a wonderful day decorating and smelling the scent of the season!

Happy fall to you as well!
