Baby, It’s Cold Outside

It looks like another great DC winter.

Longtime readers know that I am always looking for the positive in life. Gratitude is important to me. As someone who is active and enjoys running outdoors year-round, it has been hard to find the positive lately. My iPhone has delivered bad news each morning. For example, “18 degrees, feels like 2 degrees, 40 mph wind gusts.” Yeah, I won’t be running in that weather.

As Washingtonians continue to deal with an Arctic blast and I continue to count the days since I last ran outside, I thought I would come up with a list of  benefits to the weather:

  1. The kids and I have spent many nights curled up by the fire reading and playing games.
  2. I have been too cold to go to malls so I shopped for Christmas online, which has been convenient and easy.

Since I was able to actually name 10 blessings as a result of my divorce, I should be able to do better than this short list. But I can’t.

As the cold weather continues, I thought this song, a duet by Dean Martin and Doris Day, would be appropriate for the Song of the Week. It is one of my favorite songs on my Christmas playlist. I have shared a lot about myself writing on my blog this year, but I have not shared my love of romantic comedies from the 50’s and 60’s. I am a sucker for any movie with Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, Dean Martin, or Doris Day, which is probably why I like the song so much.

Stay warm this weekend.

Happy Friday!

  1. That song is great… I read a post the other day where someone was pointing out the lyrics saying that Dean was being a little forceful on his date. That may be true, but the sentiment is still nice.

And living in Minnesota I can concur… baby it sure IS cold outside!

I agree with you; it’s a great song.

  2. I hate being cold!! I love to run but have stayed inside since the temp dropped below 55. LOL I am a wimp. I have been playing Just Dance 2 on the Wii to keep up on my exercise LOL those dances are addictive. The kids love it too.

Sorry about the divorce but glad you are able to find positive things about it. Gratitude is so awesome. I am thankful for every single thing I have in my life. I am even thankful to be alive. When I divorced my ex we had to live in a battered women’s shelter to get away from him. I was very glad to be alive and here I am 9 years later remarried and in a much better life.

Keep your head up and I hope you have a wonderful holiday! :)

kimber~ Thank you for commenting. I am so sorry to hear of your difficulties in your last marriage, but feel so inspired to read you are happy and fulfilled in your new life. So often, once the good times return, people tend to lose their gratitude. It is good to read you have not lost perspective and still feel so appreciate for the blessings in your life.

  3. So this is pre-50’s and 60’s, but have you seen It Happened One Night? One of my all time favorite movies. They just don’t make romantic comedies like they used to.

I’m glad to see you’re back to the blog again. I have been bad about reading anyone’s blogs lately, as I am knee-deep in job-hunt mode, but I have noticed on my reader that there are new post from my favorite naked girl, and I just had to comment

Michele~ I have not seen that movie, but will rent it during the holidays. I just Googled it and it looks like my kind of movie. Thanks for the suggestion!

School pulled me away from my blog this fall. I realized when I didn’t have the time to write, how much I love to write. I am so happy to be back.

  4. Yes, I am proud of the fact that “gratitude” is the largest word in my tag cloud!
