The Gift of Children

Yesterday I wrote about a special holiday series of posts leading up to Christmas. Regular readers are probably not surprised to read the first gift I am sharing is the gift of children. I have only focused one post on the joys of motherhood, but there are many stories of my life with children throughout Naked Girl in a Dress.

Children have enriched my life in ways I never could have imagined before becoming a mother. Each day, without fail, I enjoy the children in my life. When I refer to children, I don’t just mean my two kids. I am so blessed to be surrounded by lots of children. There is a constant stream of little people in and out of my house daily. We enjoy having children over for big craft projects, water balloon fights, making cookies, marathon Lego sessions, making pizzas, sleepovers, playing dolls, movie nights and more. Living in the same neighborhood for so long, I have known most of these children since birth.

In return for the love and laughter I receive daily from children, I do my part to be the best example I can be for them. I hope that I am helping guide the children in my life to become good citizens of the world, to be loving and kind, and to be grateful for the blessings in their lives. I make sure children know I keep my promises, love unconditionally, clearly state boundaries, and, above all, value them in my life.

Children have so much to give and share and I am enriched by their presence in my life.

Can you share a gift you are blessed with this holiday season?

NOTE: This is part of a one week series.

I agree with you. Children are a great blessing.

  2. My oldest came home from college last night. The kids kept me up past midnight with their laughing and watching tv. Their stuff is all over my kitchen — computers, tennis bags, coats.

    It’s wonderful.
