A Year in Review: Top Ten Posts in 2010

Naked Girl's Top Ten in 2010

When I wrote my first post in April 2010 I had an idea of what I wanted to accomplish, but I have been pleasantly surprised by this writing journey. I have met wonderful people because of my blog, have been inspired by other people’s stories, have fallen in love with the process of writing, and more.

It was also a surprise to run a report to figure out the most read pieces I wrote last year. I knew a few would be on the list, but was surprised by others. The ones that went viral were obviously going to be in the top ten, but it was interesting to realize a piece that has only been on my blog for two months was one of the top read posts for the entire year.

I enjoyed going back through the archives and re-reading what people loved the most last year. I hope you do too.

Top Ten Blog Posts for 2010

1) The Start of Summer Redux— This describes a special tradition I have with my children at the beginning of each summer. It is a great idea for setting fun family goals at the beginning of the year as well.

2) Archery Lessons and a Test in Self-Control— It is rare that I climb on my soapbox and rant. But when I am overcome with the feeling to do so, it feels good to let the words fly.  From readers’ comments, I was not alone in my thoughts.

3) I am Ready to Swim–This resonated with readers and went “viral” when it was featured on SITS Girls site last summer.

4) Five Reasons I Love Being a Mom (Hint: Rummikub)–This post took off with readers after the Rummikub company discovered it. I was even contacted by the woman who handled media outreach for the company. She wanted to know if I would like to interview the President of the company and then write more posts about the game. It is strange, but true.

5) Five Tips for Supporting a Separated Friend— This post exists because a reader thought I could give her good advice to help a recently separated friend. I am so happy the reader contacted me because I continue to receive positive feedback from people who this post has helped.

6) Hope that a True and Lasting Love Exists–Writing heals the soul. This post was written at a low point in divorce negotiations and I was in a tremendous amount of pain. From a writing perspective, I found it interesting that I wrote this, barely able to see through the tears, in one 30 minute sitting .

7) Mel Gibson and Lindsey Lohan Can’t Overshadow this Special Day–This is proof that I don’t just cry and write, but I can be funny at times. I was on vacation with AC and our children when I wrote this. We were having fun on our trip and I was having fun writing that week. Anyone who regularly follows my blog knows I am obsessed with a follower of Darren Rowse of ProBlogger. He actually tweeted with me the day this post published and even left a comment on my blog. It was a very exciting day. I am actually still excited about it because I am a complete blogging nerd.

8) Free to Be You and Me— My son told me boys are more competitive than girls. This piece is about how I punished enlightened him to this error in judgement.

9 )Eat, Pray, Love and Celebrating a Beginning–Ms. Gilbert’s book has provided much insight and hope for me over the last several years. This is much more than a book review.

10) Gifts for Children that Last a Lifetime–Friends shared non-material gifts they have given their children and I added one to the list. I wish I didn’t have to share the gift I wrote about, but it was inevitable.

If you are new to my site, hopefully this will give you an idea about my writing and the theme of the blog. If you are a longtime reader, I hope you are able to discover a post you may have missed last year.

I can’t wait to see where this blogging journey takes me in 2011. Thank you for the support in my first eight months of writing online.
