Naked Girl Wraps Up with An Easter Candy-Induced Hangover

in Naked Girl Wraps Up

Yesterday was Easter egg-stuffing time. It was also an opportunity to stuff myself with candy. Locked in my room where the kids couldn’t find me, I sat on the floor filling little plastic eggs while talking to The Boyfriend. It went something like this:

TB: Honey, what did you say you are doing?

Me: Stuffing plastic eggs to hide for the kids in the morning!

TB: Um, don’t they know the Easter Bunny isn’t real, especially Princess Daisy (who will be 13 this year)?

Me: Oh, no, I don’t think so.

TB: You might be in denial babe. {As he hears me chewing non-stop} So, how much of that candy is making it into the eggs?

Me: Um, about half, why?

TB: Honey, you are going to get sick!

Me: I am saving my children from harm.

TB: What?

Me: The foil has pulled away from several of the Reece’s eggs and I think they aren’t safe for the children to eat. I don’t have an excuse for all the jellybeans though.

When the upset stomach subsided yesterday, the crash from the sugar high hit. Today I woke not wanting to see a piece of chocolate or jelly bean, but of course I am surrounded by the sugary treats; they are everywhere–hidden in the yard, in baskets, and all over the house. It’s a bad scene at the Naked Girl household this morning. I keep saying to myself, “Never again.”

Until next year, of course.

When not filling Easter eggs this past week, I was busy with the re-launch of a social media site for writers: Studio30 Plus. It has a new domain name and design; it’s hosted on a much-improved platform; we have a wide range of writers as members; and a completely re-vamped concept of what the site offers. I plan to stalk all the writers I know beginning this week so if you want to avoid the hassle of obtaining a restraining order, just go now to sign up. It’s free and the benefits are limitless.

Because launching S30P wasn’t enough work, here are the other things I had going on last week:

A Wrap-Up of My Writing This Week

This month the prompt for featured writers at The Write On Project is Boxes. It was a great topic to inspire a piece that begins with baseball and ends with stereotypes. A special thanks to Jared for babysitting this writer to get a piece out of me each month.

Two days each week Studio30 Plus features articles to help with the writing process, self-publishing, blog improvement tips, SEO, and more. Last week I wrote an article on 10 Tips to Overcome Writer’s Block.

My Favorite Read This Week

A good writer can bring us into the scene, conjuring up the setting, smells, sounds, and more. Being able to stir emotion in the reader with words is another sign of someone talented in this craft. Ben, writer at Dad of the Decade, easily brought me into the scene and moved me with his piece entitled “Meeting Emma.” Raw, honest, well-described, and heart-felt is how I would explain this beautifully-written piece about meeting his daughter for the first time. Visit him, but read much more than this one piece. He has a lot to offer.

Go read and enjoy!

There is just no end to the sacrifices that mother’s have to make for their children. What a selfless and amazing woman you are. My father & mother did the same for me at Halloween…inspecting the candy and taking the “suspicious” looking pieces for themselves to make sure we met no harm. A parent’s job is just never done. lol :)

I know. My kids clearly don’t appreciate the sacrifices I make as a mother. It’s sad, really, that they don’t understand!

Awwww, I think it’s incredibly sweet your saved the sugar high and ill-fitting foil wrapped candy from your children!

Happy happy Easter to you and yours. Hope you’re having a wonderful day (and that the little ones find all the eggs).

I refrained from testing all the candy while stuffing eggs yesterday but now that everything has been found and is in one tempting pile… I can’t say I’ve stayed out of it. In fact, I feel kind of sick from all the Reese’s eggs and mini Hershey bunnies… ugh!

I am hearing from many parents that the biggest issue were those Reece’s eggs. It was my problem on Saturday too.

Next year? I probably would have been back at it as soon as the nausea wore off. Need to keep the torn foil out of the hands of those innocents after all.

It was so bad I even skipped dessert after Easter dinner.

That is great! I wish I had just one Reese’s egg on Saturday. Those were a big problem for me (in quantity I ate).

I was off sweets for Lent and THEN I detoxed for the week prior to Easter so I ate an OBSCENE amount of chocolate yesterday and I didn’t even have the excuse that I was saving children from the sugar. Nope. I’m just a glut.

And that’s why Lent never works for me. Whatever I give up becomes and even bigger problem for me after Easter!

I also suffered from the Easter candy hangover! I can’t resist those tiny Snickers in pastel wrappers!

It was a terrible, ongoing problem in our house. Thankfully it’s all gone and I can rest easy until Halloween.
