An Exclusive Interview with The Bloggess

The Bloggess

 Today is the big day.

It’s the day I have been waiting patiently for since The Bloggess wrote on her blog she had a book deal.

Today The Bloggess’ book is available for sale:  Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: (A Mostly True Memoir).

But this day is even more exciting because I have an exclusive interview with Jenny Lawson, also known as The Bloggess. It took little stalking effort to convince Jenny to agree. I proved to her that I am her biggest fan, sharing obscure details about her that I had memorized remembered from old posts. After realizing I could win any Jeopardy game involving her life and had staked out her home, she agreed.

Did I mention that the most fabulous, crazy, inspirational, blogger’s book was released today?

Now that I have explained the backstory on this exclusive, here’s the interview:

Me: So, why in the hell would you agree to an interview with me?

Bloggess: Because you wouldn’t leave me alone until I said yes. And, well, my daughter was getting frightened by the car parked in front of our house day and night.

Me: Oh, she noticed? How exciting! I thought it was because you are a huge fan of my site. You even left a comment once.

Bloggess: I did? Oh, yes, I remember. You wrote about puppy-sized elephants. If you wrote about taxidermied animals I would probably visit more often.

Me: So, do you have any advice for me as a writer?

Bloggess: I encourage you to write about zombies, giant metal chickens, and stuffed, dead animals; it will help with your traffic.

Me: Thank you for the advice and the time you took out of your busy book tour for this interview! I am so appreciative you agreed to be a guest.

Bloggess: So, when I return from this tour, will your car still be in front of my house?

Me: No! I promised my stalking drive-bys to make sure you are safe would end with this interview.

If my gushing and the interview with Jenny didn’t convince you to buy her book, here’s what others are saying:

“Even when I was funny, I wasn’t this funny.”  —Augusten Burroughs, author of Running With Scissors and This is How

“There’s something wrong with Jenny Lawson—magnificently wrong. I defy you to read her work and not hurt yourself laughing.” —Jen Lancaster

“The Bloggess writes stuff that actually is laugh-out-loud, but you know that really you shouldn’t be laughing and probably you’ll go to hell for laughing, so maybe you shouldn’t read it. That would be safer and wiser.” —Neil Gaiman

“Jenny Lawson is hilarious, snarky, witty, totally inappropriate, and ‘Like Mother Teresa, Only Better.’” —Marie Claire magazine

And if these great quotes and the Naked Girl stamp of approval aren’t enough to convince you, listen to what a taxidermied mouse has to say about the book.

Did you buy the book yet?

{Note: This entire interview might have only taken place in my head after a few glasses of wine, but the sucking up to The Bloggess, promotion of the awesome book, and obsession with her is real.}

  1. She should feel honored to be stalked by you! I can’t think of anyone I would rather have admiring me, and that’s truth!

      Well thank you!

  3. How incredibly neat you were able to get an interview with the Blogess herself! So happy those super-sleuth and stalking skills paid off :) I’m impressed!

Sounds like an incredible book and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy either. The endorsement from Augusten Burroughs
    just seals the deal.

I know. It’s awesome being me…getting Jenny to visit. I just hope the restraining order is lifted now.

  4. A great blog (both her’s and your’s).
Her nuttiness is beyond intriguing. And, nutty.

Thanks! She is the best and I am so happy to promote her book. Well, and then there is the interview. How awesome was that??

  5. Ha ha! I love The Bloggess too!

She has been there for me in difficult times through her writing. I am so happy to help her in any small way I can.

  6. I am saving money to have Jenny Lawson stuffed by taxidermists and placed in my living room. I figure there could be no better tribute to her.

    1. Naked Girl in a Dress

Wow! And I thought the restraining order issued to me was bad! You are in for a whole lot of trouble with that idea.

  7. How awesome are you?? I don’t think I could ever get Jenny to grace my blog with her presence and if she did I would probably flip out xD.

As soon as I can afford it I am definetly buying her book!

    1. Naked Girl in a Dress

      Enjoy the book!

  8. Awww…. I want a stalker…

This interview is fantastic! And I already have the book. It’s a fun read, but you’re forced to go slowly. It’s tough to read with tears in your eyes!

    You will laugh. A lot.

    1. Naked Girl in a Dress

Well, okay. I can stalk you too if you insist.

  9. This was great!

      Thanks Ben!

  10. Last night I dreamed the Bloggess invited me to her house for margaritas. I got plastered. She was not amused. Does that count as stalking?

Great post – you’ve learned your stalking lessons well! :)

    1. Naked Girl in a Dress

Thanks Zippy! I am a talented stalker; just ask Darren Rowse.

  11. Ha ha! Well done, Kelly! I started reading this and was like, “The f**k? She never told me about this!” (’cause that’s how Jenny would say it).

There’s a copy on the way to our house (wife pre-ordered and got the autographed bookplates too!).

    1. Naked Girl in a Dress

Ha! I tricked everyone. I had fun writing it and I did write it while drinking wine. Heavy editing the next morning though. :)

  12. She is so funny. I have so much love for the Bloggess.

    1. Naked Girl in a Dress

I do too. She is the sanest, self-admitted crazy person. I just love her.

  13. I hope one day I’m awesome enough to get stalked by someone as awesome as you are.

    1. Naked Girl in a Dress

hmmm…I am looking for someone new to stalk.

  14. I’m so impatient waiting for the book to arrive! I love Jenny too (who doesn’t?). You totally had me for a moment with the interview.

    1. Naked Girl in a Dress

I can’t wait to read it either. It will be my weekend read. No time until Saturday.
