NaBloPoMo is Crazy Talk

NaBloPoMoI am crazy.

ALL CAP, italic, and bold kind of CRAZY.

It would be crazy to commit to National Blog Post Month (NaBloPoMo), writing a blog post each day for the entire month of November. With laundry always getting the best of me, a house that always has a home repair project waiting to be tackled, and a training schedule that needs to be revived, I have no room for something extra in my life. Challenging myself to a daily writing commitment would be insane.

But I am going to do this.

I have 79 drafts saved in WordPress. Some only contain an inspiring quote, while others have hundreds of words waiting to be massaged into a final post. There are sticky notes with ideas adorning my office wall, and a grease board filled with even more. Writing inspiration is overflowing, while the commitment is lacking. Not because I don’t want to write, but rather because work-life balance is always a challenge.

After visiting MommyNaniBooBoo today, I found the courage (or lost the last bit of sanity I was clinging to) needed to commit to writing daily. Here’s what Jenni said about NaBloPoMo:

“My youngest is teething and not sleeping, the Holidays are coming, and we’re in the middle of buying a new home and packing up our family for a move.  I totally have time for this.”

She also promised some days there would be “word vomit” waiting for her readers, which gave me even more confidence I could take on this challenge. I can produce word vomit, too!

As crazy as I feel for committing to publishing daily this month, at least I am not this kind of crazy:

crazy woman
I hope you will join me each day this month; I promise to keep the word vomit to a minimum.

  1. KELLY! 79 drafts????

Also, I like you precisely *because* I thought you were that kind of cracy, if only a little bit ;)

This will be a fun month. We’ll rock NaNo’s, NaBlo’s, the Studi-o, and probably should have some Cheeri-o’s cause they’re good for the heart, or so I hear. I may need that by the end of it, lol

I am a special kind of crazy. This is just a small example. :) I am glad to have so many writing friends suffering sharing the experience.

    2. I honestly thought Sean was drunk when he typed NaBloPoMo instead of NaNoWriMo. There was a cat with an empty bottle passed out on a keyboard to make me think that. Now who’s cray-cray?

      Too funny!

  2. Woo Hoo! You can doooo eeeet!
I, however, do not promise to keep the word vomit to a minimum.

I don’t think you are capable of word vomit. Nice try.

  3. The only thing that has saved me from committing to NaBloPoMo these past few years (because I AM crazy enough to consider it) is that I’ve always been lazy enough to reconsider it.

Oh, you have to join in! We have a support group at S30P now for people who committed. It will be fun!

  4. You pretty much had me at your S30P Hang Out post. I thought about it all day. Then I read MommyNaniBooboo’s post, and then Sean’s post, so here I am. It’ll be a great/crazy challenge. I’ll be hanging out with you guys. I even recruited a friend of mine, too. :)

I am really happy peer pressure has pushed you to do something crazy and time consuming this month. At least at the end of you are completely frazzled from the experience, you can blame others.

So glad to have you in our NaBloPoMo support group at S30P!

Love the term “word vomit”. Though it sounds queer but this is good for us who likes those words really.
    Keep writing :-)

Thanks, Sophia. I hope to stick to this challenge all month. It’s great for staring a solid writing habit. If I can do this, I bet I will be writing more in December as a result.

  6. I know, I’m nuts for joining in…but I need to stretch my writing muscles. And the only way to do it is to write. So, what’s a little peer pressure among friends?

It’s all good times until someone word vomits in the car while flying down the highway with a bra flapping in the wind out of the sunroof that when released lands squarely on the windshield wiper of a nice police officer. Not that I’d know anything about that….

Yeah! I am so happy you are joining with us. I find when I write regularly, it’s easier to write. When I am out of shape with writing, it’s a struggle. I think this will have a long-lasting impact on my writing. I hope you joined our NaBloPoMo Forum at S30P!
