An Act of Kindness at Christmas

With two days until Christmas most of us are busy wrapping gifts, baking, and preparing the house for company. The excitement and anticipation for the holiday isn’t just for children; it’s a time for all of us to be filled with joy as we prepare to celebrate with loved ones. Hopefully many have also seen this as a time to give to others, whether it is a local coat drive, giving tree, or possibly a Toys for Tots donation.

Today I am asking you to pause.

With all of your busy holiday preparations, I am asking you to stop and do one more kind act before Christmas.

I was so moved by a story Alex at Late Enough wrote this week about a girl in her community who passed away in April. This young girl, Abbie Waters, lost her battle with cancer at the age of 9. The Waters family is asking for help from strangers as they prepare for their first Christmas without Abby.

Abbie Waters

The Waters family is simply asking that people do one act of kindness before Christmas Eve and then follow it up with an email to AbbieWaters@aol.com.

The family will be filling Abbie’s stocking with the emails. On Christmas morning they plan to read the acts of kindness strangers did in memory of Abbie.

Please consider helping an elderly stranger to her car; buying a lunch for the homeless man who sits by your office building; helping someone load groceries in her car; paying for a coffee for the person behind you in line; or something else that might brighten one person’s day today.

Please hit pause in your holiday preparations today, think of Abbie’s family, and do something kind in memory of Abbie Waters.

Let’s fill Abbie’s stocking.

I am happy to help Alex. I told my kids and they are heading to school with the mission to help Abbie’s family by doing something kind today. We plan to send an email this evening. I hope I get some readers to participate as well.

      Merry Christmas Alex.
