This week’s third installment in the Contemplation & Growth Series is on Happiness. Of the six topics being covered, this is the one I write about most often and is part of the goal in being a naked girl in a dress: to be free, happy, and uninhibited.
As I have written in the past, happiness is an individual, ongoing responsibility to create for yourself; it’s not something that occurs by happenstance. I have reached a point in my life where I can recognize when I am off the path and am able to get back on the right course quickly. In thinking about it this week, I realized identifying and correcting something that is in the way of happiness isn’t as easy for everyone. Choosing to be happy for the first time is even more difficult.
Where does one begin when making a commitment to be happy?
It’s easy: create a good habit.
This will be effective whether it is a first-time pursuit or correcting a wrong turn in creating a happy life. To make it even easier to create a good habit of being happy, my friend Chrysta Bairre is hosting a 30-Day Happiness Challenge. It’s a great way to honor happiness daily in your life. And, if done for 30 days, it will become habit. Please visit Chrysta’s site to learn about the wonderful challenge and join us in the fun.
I leave you with the perfect Song of the Week for Day 1 of my Happiness Challenge: Sunshine. Here’s “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina & the Waves:
Happy Friday!

Thanks again for sharing my post- I really appreciate it!
I participated in a gratitude photo challenge last year and noticed it really boosted my happiness for those 30 days. I wanted to create a similar challenge and spread the happy! Participating in a photo or writing challenge is a great way to make choosing happiness a habit.
Have an awesome day!
Chrysta
You are doing something great with your challenge. I am so happy to be a part of it and share it with others.
It took me about 45 years to realize that happiness is MY choice and nobody else’s. But damn, once I figured that out, my life has been filled with so much joy and enriched beyond measure!!
I agree! When you are looking for happiness and focused on it, you see what is there. You also work hard to avoid anything that gets in the way of happiness.
I’ve recently found one of the keys to my happiness is giving myself permission to do certain things. I intend to write about this, but generally speaking, permission has helped me put less pressure on myself and not feel guilty about some things, too.
Happy Happiness!
This is great advice. Thanks Nicole.
Happiness challenge? That sounds pretty interesting to me. Thanks for sharing the music video. She got one of the sweetest voice in the earth.
I hope you follow the link to Chrysta’s blog and join in the challenge. I have noticed a difference the last few days since starting.
