This week I wrote about photography and the peace that it brings me when I am behind the lens. In the past I have written about why I blog. These two creative outlets enrich my life. What I have found, after writing this blog for almost a year, is that I actually can’t stop writing. It doesn’t feel right. A need in me is not being satisfied when I don’t have time to write.
I have written less these last two weeks, which included skipping my favorite writing exercise: writing to a prompt. Not spending the amount of time I would like writing feels the same to me as denying my body of exercise (which I have also done lately): having pent up energy that needs to be expended.
While having a perfectly balanced life is not something I will strive for right now, I do need to find a way to carve out time for the things that are enriching my life and making me feel happy: exercise, writing, and photography. It is time to work those back into my schedule after a hectic month with work got in the way.
And somehow I am planning to sleep again. I feel these goals–to increase my writing, photography, and training time AND sleep–are incongruent.
In sharing so much about myself in the last year, did I ever mention I am an optimist?
With all the talk about balance the last two weeks as I staved off having a nervous breakdown, I do have a relaxing, balanced weekend planned. Spending time with someone I have started dating, writing, shooting, seeing Monkey at his Opening Day baseball game, and working on home improvement projects around my house. While the kids are with their dad, I will have a quiet, fun weekend.
For Song of the Week this week, I am sharing yet another musician I enjoy from Mat Kearney radio on Pandora. It’s rare that I like a music video more than the song, but I do. And I love the song so that is saying a lot. Here’s Greg Laswell’s song “How the Day Sounds:”
How cool is that video?
Happy Friday everyone!

I am addicted to writing as well. It is just hard for me to find the time to do so. And I have a ton of stuff that I want to write about.
I am with you Justen! I have so many drafts in WordPress that I need to finish…I keep adding my writing ideas, hoping for a free day to focus a lot of time on writing. At least we have something we love and feel fulfilled doing. That’s a wonderful thing!
Optimism is the way to go! Enjoy your weekend.
And I loved that video and song (Elijah Wood, eh?) enough to send it along to my sons who are always lusting for new music.
Thank you Susan. I hope you enjoy your weekend as well.
Wasn’t that a great video? I loved the song and was shocked at how cool the video is when I went to YouTube to grab the embedding code. It is really creative.
