Running on the National Mall one cold morning in December, The Boyfriend asked me what I wanted for Christmas. The conversation went something like this:
The Boyfriend (TB): What do you want for Christmas Kelly?
Me: Wow, that’s a tough question. I can’t think of anything I really want. I am grateful for all that I have and am happy with my life.
TB: You are really tough to buy for.
Me: I don’t think so.
TB: But you can’t tell me anything you want.
Me: I want a drying rack!
TB: What?
Me: You know. A rack to put clothes that can’t go in the dryer. Mine is broken.
TB: I am not getting you a drying rack.
Me: But I really need a drying rack.
TB: You are impossible to buy for.
What The Boyfriend proved this Christmas is that while I might be difficult to buy for, he is a very thoughtful gift-giver. Curled up next to him on the sofa, I laughed and squealed as I opened my gifts. Practical, funny, and unexpected are good ways to describe the gifts. Each one was perfect for me in a different way.
The Boyfriend gave me tickets to see Coldplay with him this July.
He knows how much I love Coldplay.
The Boyfriend is awesome.
So for Song of the Week this week, clearly I have to share a Coldplay song. Here’s “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall.”

Great post and insightful. Men are very concrete in their thinking about gifts. Funny that Boyfriend went towards your thinking and you came hard left towards Man Thinking. Too funny. Delighted that Christmas gifting went so well though. Enjoy the day. D
Love the comment that I went towards “Man Thinking.” Thanks for that!
Thanks for stopping by today David. Enjoy your weekend!
The boyfriend indeed rocks. TeeHee – I saw nothing impossible about a drying rack. Sounds perfect to me ;)
I saw your puns on FB last night. You are on a roll!
Yes, drying rack is great idea, says the mom of 8 kids!!
Men will always say that women are impossible to buy for. But most of the time we’ll surprise you.
Everything was a total surprise. He is really awesome.
Sounds like he is really thoughtful and knows what you like. Impossible or not, he did a great job! BF and I went the same route this year, practical but things we knew the other would like and wanted. It was a win!
He is thoughtful. And awesome. And handsome. And a total Alpha Male (love that).
I am glad you had a great Christmas!
Awesome gift. My wife’s impossible to buy for too. Mostly because by the time she’s done buying everything she wants for herself, she doesn’t leave enough cash to buy anything else.
Thanks Vinny! I am very excited about seeing Coldplay this summer.
My husband claims I’m hard to buy for. I disagree. He should consult my sister. She never has any trouble finding a great gift for me. What fun is it if I give him a list?
If you give a list then you have some idea of what you are going to receive. I love to be surprised so this Christmas worked out great with The Boyfriend tortured with what to buy, but I was totally surprised.
