My Christmas Wish

christmas wishesVisiting the blog of one of my favorite writers this morning, I struggled to comment on her post. I could close the tab and exit without leaving a trace of my visit, but I wanted to share with the rest of the readers. And yet I was stumped.

The big, challenging question I struggled to respond to was this:

“What do you want to find under the tree this year?”

Anything. Nothing. I don’t know.

Not good answers, but I am at a loss this year.

Sean and I married seven months ago. We have wonderful friends, family, and kids. The two of us laugh often, and are healthy.

What is there really to ask for?

Nothing. That’s what I keep coming up with when Sean prods me for Christmas gift ideas, and when I am faced with answering the simple question on a blog.

What keeps coming to mind when I try to think of tangible gifts for under the tree, won’t actually fit in a box. What I want most is more time.

If I could gain time, I would read more, practice the guitar daily, spend extra time with my husband and kids, watch more baseball, cook great meals every night, increase my exercise schedule, and hopefully see my girlfriends more often.

What I realize about the lack of time in my life, is that this is a gift I can give myself. It might mean getting up earlier, delegating more to my team, or being creative with my time, but this is a gift I can achieve.

What is the one gift you are wishing for this year?

  1. I am wishing for the ability to not waste precious time and energy on things/people that don’t really matter to my life. This should free up much more time for doing the things I truly love (with my free time) like reading and writing. I need to learn to let go of a few things that don’t serve me. I need to focus on being more present. So those are the three things. Wait! You asked about one thing. Well, in my head, they go hand-in-hand.

I think these are great gifts to wish for…and to make happen this season and into the new year!

  2. I’ve never got an answer either when I’m asked what I want for Christmas. I think this year going into the season and celebrating another birthday (one year closer to 45) I’m probably more content with my life and myself than I’ve ever been. My career is good, my family is healthy and my boys are coming along into adulthood. What more could I possibly want?

Maybe the older we get, the more we appreciate what we have in our life. We realize that is so much more important than a wrapped package.

  3. I wanted more time, too. So last year I asked for and got a cleaning service to come twice a month. It is so nice to go out and spend time doing something I love and then come home to a sparkling clean house.

I love it! I STILL don’t have cleaning help at our house even thought I have been talking about it all year. That should be a goal for 2015 so that more time WILL actually happen!

  4. sounds like the perfect gift to self, Kelly! Carving out more time is a skill I must work on. Merry Christmas season to you and your family :)

Thank you Lisa. Best wishes for a great Christmas for your family as well! Let’s both work on carving out quality time in 2015….I know it will be worth it!

  5. First time back in the blog world for a while, glad to see that your life is fulfilled and that you are not lacking/wanting for anything in the critical areas of your life. That is truly a blessed place to be! Hope you and your loved ones are all doing well and I look forward to catching up on (lots of) things that I missed!

Thanks! It’s great to have you back! I am still writing here, but with the many turns in my life, not as much as I would like. That said, I am still writing, which is all that matters.
